NFL Draft

And the 1st overall Pick in the 2010 Draft is..
After some speculation the St.Louis Rams used their 1st overall pick to obtain Oklahoma Quarterback Sam Bradford. Their were rumors on draft day that the Rams would use their pick to take Ndamukong Suh the Defensive Tackle from Nebraska, but the Rams stuck to their game plan, and drafted the franchise Quarterback. It was a very smart pick, because to play in a league where every team has a strong Quarterback; Bradford was the only choice. Suh the highly touted went second overall the defensive tackle will fit in perfectly as a cornerstone of the Detroit Lions behind Calvin Johnson and Matt Stafford. After that the Bucs took McCoy the Redskins took Trent Williams to protect Mcnabb from the amazing defensive tackles in the NFC East. Eric Berry the Safety from Tennessee was picked by the KC Chiefs to round out the top five. NFL analysts will tell you can never look at a draft year until the third year, but it is believed that the first five will be cornerstone players for years to come. Other notable picks were: 6th overall pick Russell Okung to Seattle, C.J. Spiller at 9th overall by the Buffalo Bills. But most notable was that of ex-Florida QB and one time Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow goes to Denver Broncos at 25. The Broncos since losing Cutler two years ago, used Kyle Orton and then traded for Brady Quinn in the offseason to compete for the job. The Dallas Cowboys took Dez Bryant, who was suspended by the NCAA for substance abuse and then lying about it, a pick before Tebow. The Cowboys traded up to get the top Wide-Out in the draft, but poses an issue at camp. With Miles Austin the number one starter, the spots behind him on the depth chart are up for grabs, veteran Patrick Crayton, Roy
Williams, Sam Hurd and now Dez Bryant. Another surprising pick was second rounder and Notre Dame starter Jimmy Clausen. Clausen was projected in the top ten, fell too forty-eighth, but goes to a team who has one of the best run offences in the league. With no announcement on a starting QB out of camp, it is very possible that Clausen could start. Out of my five winners three are from the NFC WEST. Seattle, San Francisco, St.Louis Rams all upgraded and fill needs with immediate players. Seattle gets the best Offensive Lineman in the draft in Russell Okung, which will help immensely with the new RB tandem of Leon Washington and Lendale White. San Francisco was fortunate to have two first round picks and selected two première players to solidify their o-line. Both Anthony Davis and Mike Iupati will help with what is believed to be a playoff team. St.Louis did one thing right for a change, and that was to draft their franchise QB. My other two winners are the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns. The Jets just added more weapons to the most dominate defense in the league and the Browns whose General Manager Mike Holmgren said would not draft a QB did, and probably with one of the drafts steal in Colt McCoy in the third round. They also cleared up any problems they had in their backfield selecting a CB in Joe Haden with their first pick and a Free Safety in T.J. Ward with their third. My losers are the Oakland Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals and their New York Giants. Although Oakland traded for Jason Campbell a few days after the draft, they missed out on a franchise quarterback and betting that this pick does not come back to bite owner Al Davis. The Jaguars made the first big “huh?” question of the day drafting Tyson Alualu’s at least 20 picks sooner than anticipated. In a division where Houston is a good throwing team, another team has Chris Johnson, and the last team in the division is the home of the reigning MVP (Peyton Manning). For the Jaguars to not solidify their secondary and their QB position, they get a bad grade. The Bengals did not fill the holes shown by the Jets in the last two games of the season. The Cardinals which lost most of its core players in the offseason, and with management now contemplating Leinart, it will be a tough season. I have never seen a team in football go from such a high to an incredible low. The Giants once talked about defense got carved up by opponents, and their running game stalled. Giants did not need a Defensive End with (Osi, and Tuck) but the need to replace the huge gap left by Antonio Pierce. Watch out for Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller. He is my vote for rookie of the year.
